Under the Trump administration, the Environmental Protection Agency has veered so far from its principal mission — protecting human health and the environment — that a new study from the American Journal of Public Health describes it as ‘on the verge of regulatory capture.’ Regulatory capture is the term used to describe the reshaping of an agency’s decisions based on industry priorities instead of the public interest and impartial research. The study was based on interviews with current and former EPA staff, as well as reviews of White House and EPA initiatives.
