Deepwater Wind, one of the two offshore wind developers approved to start development off Maryland’s Eastern Shore, has teamed-up with energy-storage giant Tesla for the nation’s biggest offshore wind and battery storage project (so far). The 144 MW Revolution Wind project, to be sited off the coast of Massachusetts, was submitted as a bid for a 15-20 year contract under an RFP to help the state meet its (new) renewable energy goal of 1,200 MW. Massachusetts additionally has an offshore wind goal of 1,600 MW of offshore wind by 2027. Tesla is looking to broaden the applicability of their battery products. Traditionally known for the solar-plus-storage configurations, the company has announced ventures that would help store and dispatch intermittent wind energy during high peak periods.
